The 5 biggest fitness and food mistakes I made

There is so much overwhelming information out there regarding our health - especially when it comes to fitness and nutrition. I'm going to share with you the biggest mistakes I made in my health journey, so you don't have to go through the same thing too!

Mistake # 1: Trying to spot reduce fat
We've all seen those TV ads showcasing exercise equipment claiming that it will 'sculpt' certain areas of your body... this is simply not true. No exercise can remove fat from any part of your body. When we lose fat, we can't control where we lose it from. Some areas will be more stubborn as our bodies are programmed to store more fat in certain places. And that's okay! Focus on overall weight loss and just let your body do its natural thing.

Mistake # 2: Cutting out certain food groups
I once tried to cut out carbs and sugar entirely. Cutting out food groups can result in you having a bad relationship with food. Not to mention it can be really unsustainable. And speaking of food, this brings us to mistake number three...

Mistake # 3: Letting my social life suffer
If you know me well, you'll know that on weekends I prefer to wake up early and do a big outdoor run, instead of nursing a hangover. The one thing I will not sacrifice however, is my love for FOOD! One of the biggest mistakes I made was letting my fear around food stop me from enjoying meals out with friends and just ordering a salad off the menu when what I really wanted was a burger and fries.

Mistake # 4: Believing the marketing on 'health foods'
Protein bars, low carb bread, sugar free chocolate... the list goes on. A lot of the time, these so called 'health foods' market themselves in a way to make you think you're in for a healthy treat. I would suggest becoming confident with reading nutritional labels on the back of packets so you know what you're really consuming.

Mistake # 5: Wasting time on useless workouts
Just because it's a 'workout' doesn't mean it's going to work. Let's take ab workouts for example. You would know by now that ab workouts are a waste of time, they will not give you a flatter stomach or even a stronger 'core.' I cringe to think how much time I wasted planking... the only thing I got out of these exercises was that it was feeding my emotional attachment.

It took me over 3 years to reach my ‘ideal body goal.’ It’s not that it was a 3 year long mission, it’s just that I wasted 3 years doing the wrong things. If you want to avoid wasting time and making ALL the wrong mistakes like I did, get in touch today to see how we can work together. 💪🏻
